Personal Statement

Name: Taylor Hagan-Tallscott

Anticipated Major: Music Technology

Ever since I was a kid the only thing I ever could relate too, the only thing that connected with me on a daily basis was music. Growing up in New Jersey and being in Bloomfield for about seventeen years influenced me heavily on what music was around me, but I didn’t realize till it smacked me in the face that Music Technology was what I truly want to do for the rest of my life. Working with sound is my true desire and becoming a sound engineer and one day calling myself a real music producer is my dream. In high school I took many television classes which introduced me to sound but also my first passion of editing footage for the Bloomfield High School public access channel and also producing, camera & board operating that later turned me on to Theater. I operated my first sound board for our schools play in Van Fossan theater junior year. But that was just the beginning, soon my freshman year of college at Fairleigh Dickinson University I worked on all four shows as stage crew and as the sound designer and board operator. Now I’m here, attempting to venture down the road of Music Technology. For two years I have been crafting a sound of my own in my lyrics and producing artists from the Essex County area. Spending countless hours chopping, screwing, mixing, remastering and trying to learn new programs daily, I’m working on building a small empire from the ground up. My music is going to change the hip hop game and give it a new noise thats not concentrated on money, drugs and deceitful woman. Getting my education in music and the technology in less than a year at Bloomfield College has taught me the basics of ProTools, Reason, Photoshop, Illustrator and other programs as well. My mind has been opened up to different cultures of music, many ideals I never realized and has done so much in one year. There wouldn't be anything else that I would rather have than to be accepted into the CAT program so I could learn more and craft my skills as much as possible. But I have an issue that I would like to bring up which is that you can’t minor in Film but you can minor in Music Technology. It would be beneficial to my studies and future if I could major in Music Technology and minor in Film with a concentration on editing. My dreams to make music, edit my music videos and have it be affordable for other artists to also create their own sound without it taking them to the bank. I want to be able to inspire and teach people to never value restriction. To push the limits and dismiss the daily media waste that is pumped into the youth everyday and use our music to do good for our communities and improve our knowledge on situations we take for granted. Also to improve the views on the industry and break rules and open eyes to those who have been blind by the mass. I want to make a difference and learn as much as I can to become the best artist I could be.

Thank You.

Poetry

Freedom isn't free
You Might Not be Fighting
But My brother is doing a good deed.
To fight for freedom over seas
From the things you see on your TV's
The lies, the pain and the sorrow
That is with you everyday
That no one
I mean no one could get away
It's America 's own Hell
Hidden from us
So only the government can tell
Now life will soon be better
From all the hate and destruction
And families corrupted
From good ole America 's own function
So i really ask is freedom free
From the darkness over seas
And all those evil deeds
From those people on our TV's

Writing Sample: Eduard Manet

Nineteenth Century Response
March 13, 2011

In the nineteenth century many rules and traditions were broken on Academic paintings. A unique artist in my opinion was Eduoard Manet whose technique on the painting Luncheon on the Grass broke the fourth wall. The two characters in the middle of the painting are looking directly at the viewer. It gives you the feeling you might be present at this lunch or picnic. This itself was a drastic because no art really ever did this. It freaked people out most likely, probably like how the paintings eyes would follow you which was a whole new move. But another interesting thing is the man in the middle is supposedly Eduoard Manet which is interesting when an artist represents himself in a work of his own. Another outside the box move by Manet. But even if that wasn’t unique in his own he portrayed the woman half naked or almost completely nude. This back in the nineteenth century created a stir because the women were not goddesses or queens but prostitutes. The church and its followers probably saw it as degrading or something which is probably why it was not accepted at the festival in France. The art was refused but later put on display at another festival called Salon des Refuses for just refused paintings which actually became more popular than the committee picked artwork. In conclusion Manet was pushed boundaries, broke rules and created a noise with his artwork which is basically the best accomplishment an artist can have.

Inspiration

The Crew

One of my favorite songs, a remix to Estelle's American Boy. Making music with my crew is the what I love to do. Producing, rapping, creating, and doing what makes me happy. This business might be brutal but as long as I got my voice and my microphone the magic will never stop.
